Some notes from the Squadron Captain for our members in 2010

Ø       Please get your membership renewal forms, complete with fee and proof of insurance directly into the Hon Treasurer. Membership renewal forms are available in the members area or by email.

Ø       I will repeat my words of last season inter alia: 2010 can be an exciting season and your input is vital to the success of this goal. Unfortunately to date, the majority of the NSYS membership does not always contribute to the success of the Squadron. Being a member of the NSYS carries responsibilities and among these is involvement in Squadron activities and events.

Ø       Cove SC has once again extended an invitation to NSYS to partake in Friday evening racing and I strongly recommend this. It was a great success last season, especially for two of our boats. The racing begins in May and the start gun is 1900hrs. You will be supping pints in the Marloag at 2030hrs!!

Ø       Your involvement in the annual KYC race and RCYC Naval race will also be welcome. We don’t have the RCYC Naval Race date yet but the KYC race date is Saturday 28 August 2010 and we would plan on sailing to Kinsale the night before. Last year was a resounding success with over 35 yachts remaining overnight and mighty craic in the Wardroom. Well done to all and thanks to Paddy O’Connor for his OOD input.

Ø       The Irish Cruising Club will again be visiting the Base on 16/17 April 2010 for a raft up and reception. I will keep you posted.

Ø       Good Friday 02 April 2010 is Float Day and all members launching boats are required to attend or to send a rep to assist. It is a very busy but enjoyable 8-10 hrs and there is always a great ‘buzz’ on the South Wall. On completion of the launch, please assist in the general clean-up. Please have your fees for the crane payable on the date to the Hon Treasurer

Ø       Our ‘Laying-Up’ evening took place in East Ferry 16th October 09 and was a superb success. This year will follow the same plan and we will be encouraging members to attend. Maybe even a different venue?

Ø       We continue to improve our facilities and at the time of writing, we intend purchasing additional high quality, new sections. It is emphasised that the Marina Manager has the full backing of the Squadron Captain and Committee and ‘his word goes’. Members must not move boats, change/take berths without the consent of the Marina Manager.

Above all – Enjoy the Season, Remember your Seamanship and

Be Courteous to others on the Sea
